Economy

Well, my 20 euros for 20 days was a COMPLETE success! I had money to spare! I then proceeded to spend all of my Decembers food allowance on my holiday menu. Now I’ll begin to “rebuild” my food budget surplus. Last month I ended up getting 5€ less than I had thought because our dollars exchange was at 1.28 instead of 1.26.

John got me my “dream gift” this year for Christmas and I have had the most fun with it!  Yep, I asked for a pressure canner. Here are some of the results:

canned beans beans potatoes

I canned chili with ground beef, beans (garbanzo, pinto and kidney) and 7 jars of canned potatoes. Fun, eh? I had such a great time doing this!!

more to come!

It looks great! We’ve got three chickens going into the can this weekend. We skin them so we don’t have to pluck. Good work.-John

So, speaking of economy… we have guests coming next week for 2 weeks. i have spent money on meat this month (don’t usually spend very much on it) and bought in bulk. Then today I went and got LOTS of food for 57 euros (about 76$). This should last me the next 2 weeks, maybe longer if I do it right. The oranges were .80 a kilo and carrots .45 a kilo. We are keeping meals simple and well balanced, with dessert usually being fruit. Of course, then we got a box today from John and Cheri with all the treats we need! Chocolate, cheese wiz, tabasco, gold fish, a movie and more!
    whooo hooo!
