A labor of LOVE

Isn’t this the most beautiful quilt you have ever seen!?! The colors are gorgeous  for our beige walls and fits our bed perfectly. Cheri made this  quilt called Blooming Nine Patch. I looked on the internet to read about the history of this pattern but couldn’t find any information. Our son John made the comment that the instructor at Cheri’s quilting class said, ” no one makes Blooming Nine Patch and gives it away!”

I love being the recipient of such a lovely gift. Please leave your comments and any information about the history of this quilt.

  • wow! that’s really beautiful! I love quality handmade gifts… they truly are a labor of love.

I’m glad to see you are posting again! :)

    • Yes, it’s just so pretty on the bed! And yes… I hope to post more often now… So much to do so little time!

  • Really, really beautiful!!! Good work, Cheri, what a wonderful present..

    • It’s just so lovely! The photo does not do it justice.

  • What a beautiful treasure – a true future family heirloom! I agree with Jerusha – such a labor of love from your sweet daughter-in-law! Love and Blessings to you, John and your family from California! and Happy Birthday to John today! Love, Debie :-)

    • Yes, the gift is wonderful but from our girl makes it more special!

  • I wanted also to say how much we both appreciate and like the quilt that Cheri made us. “Thank you Cheri!!” from us for all her incredible hard and detailed work on that quilt! We put it on the bed and it livened up the entire room. The colors coordinate in our room perfectly. It’s a complete work of art and we both love it. It’s the most attractive and well done bed covering we’ve ever had. Size is perfect and it’s hard to get anything that large here in Spain.

  • Bobbie, that is without question the most beautiful hand crafted quilt I have ever seen. (And I have one hand crafted for me by Amish quilters. For your daughter in love to make it for you makes it even more special. Thanks for sharing the photo.

    • Yes, it was a surprise and a true gift from the Lord. Thank you for rejoicing with me.

  • What a beautiful gift! I am happy for both of you and for the giver. I am sure Cheri’s heart is full of joy too, knowing that her labor is appreciated and brings joy to many! Thank you for sharing your joy! – Kelly Lewis, FL

    • Hi Kelly. Yes, our son & grandson come and then our Cheri sends this quilt that must have taken her AGES!! My heart is FULL. Joyfully, Bobbie

  • Bobbie: That is an outstanding quilt! I don’t know that specific pattern
name, but I’d guess it’s called “blooming” because of the flowers in half
the squares. Nine-patch is a classic old pattern that has been loved by
quilter for generations now. Anyway…it’s wonderful, and I can visualize
you will cherish it for many years!

  • Wonderful! We love the blooming nine patch and have been collecting outstanding examples (like yours). The pattern was first published in 1996 by Blanche Young with her daughter, Dalene Young Stone, in their classic book “Tradition With a Twist”. We are pinning it to our Pinterest board: http://pinterest.com/quiltinspire/blooming-nine-patch-quilts/. Thank you!
