I don’t know about the name “Navajo” fry-bread… In North Dakota we always just called it Arikara fry-bread… But, I guess if you eat it when you’re in New Mexico you could call it “Navajo” fry-bread to be polite…

That said, fry-bread is best hot right after it's made with some salt or just about any other topping you can think of. You have to cook it in very hot oil however otherwise it absorbs a lot of the grease and then it’s like drinking warm corn oil on bread with results that match.

When it’s fried hot, it’s really good with chili and, especially with smoked corn, beans and deer pemmican [but, we’re a bit short of deer pemmican lately so we ate it with some excellent soup].

It can also be used as a pizza crust base and we had that for dinner a couple of nights ago and it was also great! Fry-bread is also relatively inexpensive and does not, contrary to many of the health blogger’s opinions, cause weight gain. Even eating several pounds of fry-bread will NOT cause a person to gain weight! Moreover with the new genetically engineered omega-3 fatty acid abundant fry-breads, you can eat fry-bread like candy and then just flippantly dismiss any of those uninformed blogger critiques. What do they know anyway about fry-bread? I’ll bet they never even went to North Dakota… or even New Mexican for that matter…
