Type 2 vacation

Apr 23, 2013 by     6 Comments    Posted under: blessings, Blogroll, Family, photos

You may ask what a TYPE 2 vacation is… well, I just learned that expression from our son a few days ago. I think he may have invented the term.  Let’s see if I can get this right…
A TYPE 1 vacation may look like a time when you can read on the beach or a cruise, or perhaps  some sight-seeing in some exciting city.

A TYPE 2 vacation is well… ummm…. err….how can I define this? You go somewhere, and get stressed to the max learning something new or pushing your limits physically, emotionally or both with great family and/or friends. Crying may be involved, tons of laughter (mainly at yourself) and when it’s over you are glad, and thrilled that you could even do it!

Ok, we just finished with a TYPE 2 vacation. Our kids John & Cheri, and friends Cliff & Jen, treated us to a 4 day handgun course at http://www.frontsight.com/  in Pahrumpa Nevada. What a hoot! There were some days I thought I’d never get ‘it’ but left realizing that I had learned a ton.

Things I learned:

  1. I can’t believe anyone has a gun without such a course in gun safety and shooting.
  2. I can still learn new things
  3. I never want to shoot anyone, but I now can defend myself and family if the need arises.

What I loved:

  1. Being with grandchildren and getting to know them.
  2. learning with our kids, John & Cheri & great family friends, Cliff & Jen and our 14 year old  grandson, John Caleb ( 6′ 4″ tall) also took the course.
  3. laughing our heads off!
  4.  The warm and loving hospitality of Cliff & Jen and their family.

My Blog has a NEW look

May 3, 2012 by     6 Comments    Posted under: Blogroll, Family

As you can see I have a NEW appearance to my blog thanks to the skills and time our son-in-law Neil shared with me. He has been a wealth of information and is extremely patience in his teaching this ‘old dog to learn new tricks’. I hope these new tricks  will become salient and I can move on to learn even more from him.

Each on one of our kids has so many talents and attributes and John and I appreciate these in Neil:

  • He is willing to share his knowledge & skill
  • He is a continual learner
  • He’s patient
  • It’s a good teacher
  • Good father
  • Serving & loving husband
  • Humble
  • Hard worker/diligent.
  • Godly man
  • He’s very fun to be around!

I thank God for  Neil  as I know all of our family does.

Paella with family…Life is good

John’s brother Joe and sister-in-law, Vanita came to visit us in Spain this past week. As I mentioned in our last prayer letter, this marks the 1st time EVER that one of John’s siblings has come to visit us while overseas (23 years!) What fun we had with them! Here we are in the village garage, making a paella. This one was called a paella mixta because it had both chicken & seafood. You can get a bigger view of the photos by running  your cursor over the photo and clicking. Paella is the #1 recipe I use for that wonderful herb: saffron, which is the most expensive spice in the world. Needless to say, it is much cheaper to buy here in paellalandia. I have an entire recipe book for just paellas, and they are yummy!

Isn’t this a sweet little guy? Nathanial Gish is the newest member of our family and married to our Jerusha last October. I was very thankful that Nathanials Mom sent me this baby photo and I’m happy to share it with you. He and Jerusha live and work in Chicago, IL.
